The Man and the Van

She saw him while walking
Returning to her car
A middle-aged man
Struggling in a cast

In one hand, he held a suit case
In the other hand a cane
His eyes were cast warily
As he stumbled to his van

“May I help you sir?” she asked
As her heart went out to him
“Would you? That would be swell
Help me into my van.”

She supported him to his car
One arm over his shoulder
Was the first in the door
To help pull up the man

But suddenly, he wasn’t stumbling
As he jumped out and swung shut the door
She heard him get into the front
And realized just what she had done

That was what she told the police
As she stumbled into the station the next day
They took note of all they said
But never found the man

And from then on she warned everyone she met
Don’t trust everyone you see
They might just be the man
Who kidnapped her in his van

This is the, ahem, censored version. I figured that A) I shouldn't put the version where the girl gets raped into my school anthology lest I want a trip to the counselor and B) I shouldn't put it here either. *Pleasant smile* I don't think I saved it anyway, it stunk. :P Dated April 4th, 2004.
