Gown

Why’d you have to fall?
To leave me here to face it all
Why’d you have to fail?
To leave me fighting, tooth and nail

I tried and now you’re gone
And I’m facing alone this wild dawn
It was easy when you were here
To keep me going, help me steer

And I’m angry and so afraid
And still feeling a little betrayed
You had to pull a stunt like this
Is this your eternal bliss?

You left me here, on my own
I wish this guilt could be overthrown
But I still have to blame you
Otherwise we would've gotten through

But how can I be mad?
You’re the one who’s been had
So why should I be the one to sigh
When you’re the one to die?

Why’d you have to fall?
To leave me here to face it all

I tried and now you’re gone
And I’m facing alone this wild dawn
It was easy when you were here
To keep me going, help me steer

I’m facing the tide alone
Fighting to the blood and bone
To face this swarming tirade
I’m losing this dang’rous parade

I’m twirling ‘round and around
In a constricting ball gown
When you were here I was safe and free
But I feel like now I can never be

Suitors spinning, turning to glance
Tapping my shoulder, asking to dance
They want to dance when I want to run
My faithfulness to you has still won

I love this poem. I wrote it at school... but when I was supposed to be writing poetry! Isn't that weird? Written for the 8th grade poetry anthology. Dated April 6th, 2004.
