Fortunes
I went to the fortune teller today
you know the one, the old grey lady
who gives out fortunes for a dollar
Well she said that I'm not happy where I am
said I need to watch for openings
because someday I'll be an artist, a gardener, and a writer
(forget which order, though)
and I'd be but a starving artist
unless I took the chance
while it was offered
You're laughing and I'm laughing with you
what a crazy woman, you say
what a freak, I supply.
But part of me is looking for that chance
in everything I do
because even dying a starving artist sounds more exciting
than securely whittling my life away as an accountant
