A Name
Birth is such a trifle
thing
When you're born into a role
Recorded in fate
Born into a role you have to play
I smile in untruth,
the untruth of silence
Expected to be happy I am
They think I must be joyful
The think I have all
I dance in the grace,
the grace of my name
Heir to riches, respect, and success
They call me wise when wiser I am not
They call me high-strung but that's only my name
Yet, if I didn't have
my name
Who would care one bit about me?
They don't care about the person behind the name
But I'll never understand why anyone wishes for fame
I dress the way I'm
told, stand the way I was taught to hold
Play up to the people I must, frown upon others
You think I have everything? Ha!
I'll give you everything; everything is nothing.
For I have nothing, nothing but a name.

The beginning of this idea came to me during American Cultures, and the end came to me on the bus. It is dated October 14th and 17th 2003 because I wrote half on each day.
