Magazines

“What are you doing?”
Kaylinda, short, pink hair sticking out at odd angles from her face, whipped her head around to see her mother, carrying a laundry basket. She was still turning the pages of a magazine on top of one of the two piles in front of her.
Her mother looked amused. A smile was playing at the edge of her mouth, making one side curl upwards as she tried to hold in a chuckle.
“Observing,” Daughter answered, turning back to the stack.
“What would you need to look at magazines for?”
“Well, they have instructions for how to apply makeup so that you look sexy–”
“–Something you don’t necessarily need makeup for–”
“–And look at the clothing, this season’s styles are very bold and pink–”
“–You have enough pink with the hair, you know–”
“–And this season’s gold is apparently–” she consulted the page in front of her, “–silver.”
“I thought you didn’t wear jewelry.”
“–There’s a bunch of workout tips in here too–”
“–You, work out? Pigs are sprouting wings as we speak–”
“–And look at these strict diet plans!”
“–Fad diets never work–”
“–So, I’m only looking so I can do the exact opposite.”
Mother smiled. “Alright, Kaya, have fun. Don’t forget to give Gina her magazines back tomorrow.”
“Sure thing,” Kaylinda replied, rolling off her black-and-white-striped stockings.
