Beadie Lizards

Beadie lizards are very simple and inexpensive gifts for classmates or pretty much anyone else. It's handmade, too, that's always a plus. *Grin*

You've probably made them before, but if not, they're extremely easy to make.

You will need:

  • About a yard/metre of 'yarn floss' or some other kind of cord. It needs to be thin enough to be able to fit into a pony bead's hole easily twice
  • 2 pony beads of any color for the eyes (I like using glow-beads)
  • 51 other beads of any other color
  • If you want to be able to stick the beadie on a keyring, you will need a keychain catch
  • Glue (optional)
  • Scissors
All of these can be found in most craft stores.

1) Tie the keychain catch to the middle of the cord.

2) You should have the catch in the middle and two strings on either side about a half yard/metre long. String a bead onto one of these, then string the other side of cord through the other side. It should go in the side that the other cord comes out of.

3) That is the first row. For the second row, string two beads onto one side, then string both on the other side too.

I know I am not explaining this too well, so here is a pattern to follow. Visual aide. ^^

3) For legs: you string five beads, then use the same side of string to go back through only the first two.

4) Make sure you are keeping everything tight and not letting it fall apart.

5) When you finish the tail, knot the end several times in a row and put a smal drip of glue on the knot. Snip the ends shorter and allow the glue to dry. You do not have to do the glue, but it makes it less likely to fall apart.

After you know what to do and how to do it, you can be more creative with the patterns.

You can use this pattern to make your own patterns for lizards... use it on your own computer. If you put it online, you must link to Adriennewolter.com. You may not use the first image with the way to string the cord, though.

If you want to make other beadie critters than lizards, the best site for patterns is here.
