Gettysburg, the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, is also a spot well-known to ghost hunters and interested tourists as a prime spot to find ghosts.

Over 51 thousand soldiers died at the Battle of Gettysburg, out of the 155 thousand that fought. Therefore, 33% or one third of those who were engaged in battle there never left. With little room left in nearby houses for more spirits, many simply roam the fields in the area that they fell.

Many of the houses that were along the front lines during the battle have been turned into museums and inns, and other such attractions for tourists to enjoy. They proudly display the hundreds of bullet holes littering their outer walls.

Of such attractions, there are the Farnsworth house, a bed and breakfast, and the Jennie Wade House museum. Many visitors of the Farnsworth house have reported instances of their belongings (or babies) being lifted by nothing, doors opening by themselves, and spirit forms flickering into and out of existance at the end of their bed. The Jennie Wade House, where the only civilian casualty of the entire battle was killed, holds the restless spirit of Mary Virginia Wade. She has been known to follow tourists as they tour her home, as well as appear in mirrors as a woman dressed in clothing of the Civil War area.
