Afflicti Opthma
By Piper Crescent

To test any object for curses.

Ingredients:
1 dragon egg (any variety)
4 pairs of bat's eyes
5 gallons of water from a waterfall
supposedly afflicted item

How to prepare: Build a small fire under your caldron and let the fire warm your caldron until it is hot to the touch (about an hour). Slowly add water from a bucket spilling it out as if it is pouring from the fall it came from. Bring the water to a boil. Crack the dragon's egg and separate out the yolk. Pour yolk into caldron. Stir until yolk is distributed evenly throughout the water. Add the bat's eyes a pair at a time. Put out fire and let potion sit for 13 minutes.

How to use: Dip supposedly afflicted item into the water. If the water starts churning in a circular motion the item is afflicted with some type of curse. If the water stays still your item is not afflicted with any known curse. CAUTION: AS SAID BEFORE IF WATER STANDS STILL THAT MEANS YOUR ITEM IS NOT AFFLICTED BY ANY KNOWN CURSE. THAT DOES NOT GUARANTEE IT IS NOT AFFLICTED BY SOME CURSE THAT WE DO NOT YET KNOW OF. IF YOU DO FIND OUT IT IS AFFLICTED BY AN UNKNOWN CURSE PLEASE CONTACT THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC IMMEDIATELY.

Beauty Solution
By Adrienne

The Beauty Solution was a very popular potion in the late 1700s until the mid 1800s. It changes the features of someone's face (similarly to the Polyjuice Potion, which was created near the end of the Beauty Solution's popularity spurt) to a mental image that they have in mind for three days. The use of this potion (as well as the use of the Polyjuice Potion) was outlawed in the mid 1800s because people had discovered that they were less likely to be caught if they used this potion while performing illegal acts.

Ingredients:
1 cup dragon's blood
2 ounces Melocasia seeds
3 Cosmet Flower leaves
1 fairy wing

Tools Required:
1 large silver cauldron (standard sizes 4-6 work well)
1 wand (knowledge of the usage of a pensieve)

How to Prepare:
1) Boil a cup of dragon's blood in a fairly large, silver cauldron.

2) Crush two ounces of Melocasia seeds into an even paste. Check that they smell like cinnamon. If they do, add the paste to the boiling dragon's blood in small amounts (if you add it too quickly the dragon's blood will boil over the edge of the cauldron, no matter how large the cauldron is). If they do not smell like cinnamon, they were improperly stored and should be discarded.

3) Chop up the Cosmet Flower leaves into equally-sized portions and add them to the mixture.

4) Stir the potion counterclockwise for two minutes, at which point you must immediately add the fairy wing. If you are late or early by more than fifteen seconds the potion will not work. (It is recommended that you unwrap the wing prior to adding the Cosmet Flower leaves and use a timer after adding the leaves so that you are more precise.)

5) Finally, concentrate all of your energy on a mental picture of the face you want to have and extract the thought from your mind much as you would do when working with a pensieve. Drop it into your potion.

6) If the mixture is correctly prepared, it will fizz at the addition of the mental picture and go from a dark muddy color to a an clear shade of yellow. Let cool. Store in a glass container. (The magical properties of the dragon's blood will seep through most other containers of any thickness.)

Usage:
Pour a cup of the mixture into a glass cup to drink from. Drink the entire cup at once (do not stop to breathe). Over the course of the next hour the features of your face will slowly change to the mental image you put into the potion.

Blackness as Shadows
By Molly McGonagall

Ingredients:
Phoenix feathers
bits of phoenix claws
phoenix tears (so there are no HARMFUL drawbacks)
Hippogriff feathers
bits of hippogriff claws
three drops hippogriff blood
owl feathers
bits of owl claws
the sound of an owl's screech

Tools: Your wand
a bewitched Muggle wooden spoon

The potion, Blackness as Shadows, allows you to blend in with shadows. In other words, makes you fuse into one's shadow. It's used for foolish pranks for wizarding children's amusement most of the time, but the potion was made for spying purposes. Mostly for Aurors to use. It can also be used for an easier game of hide-and-seek. But this potion shouldn't be used lightly. It's effect lasts for five days so you'll be stuck in one's shadow for a long time if you drink your entire caldron of it.

How to prepare: Get all the ingredients three weeks BEFORE you need to use the potion. And practice stirring with a bewitched, Muggle, wooden spoon.

Canabanis Potion
By Gwyn Llyn

Purpose: To cure your great dane of garden gnome-itis, a disease which occurs when your pet has caught and tossed so many of the little creatures that he/she is in a perpetual grab and throw frenzy with any and all objects in his/her vicinity.

Ingredients:
2 crushed lily fronds
1 pinch of powdered dragon scales
2 liters distilled water
7 clean great dane nose-hairs

Tools Needed:
1 size 3 cauldron, thick bottomed
1 pair gloves
1 wand for stirring magically
1 flaming apparatus (fire, etc.)
1 stoppered jar

How to Prepare:
1) Add half of the water to the emtpy cauldron. Place the cauldron over the flame, and bring the water to a boil.

2) You'll want the lily fronds to be freshly crushed--get them from your garden or local nursery, and crush them immediately before you are ready to start blending. The proper crushed consistency is have them pulpy, slightly drippy. You don't want to actually lose any of the liquid--at the point that it starts to ooze everywhere, stop crushing and put them into the cauldron.

3) Let the crushed lily fronds blend with the boiling water for 3 minutes, stirring your wand in a counter-clockwise motion, then add the pinch of powdered dragon scales. If all is going well at this point, a light pink haze will waft from the cauldron and the mixture within will be a deep red.

****Please note that if at this point of the process, your potion is purple rather than red, you crushed the lily fronds too much, and need to start over for the potion to be effective.****

4) Take up your wand and now stir the potion in a clockwise motion 10
times. At the end of the 10th stir, add one great dane hair. Repeat the stirring process, adding the hairs, until all are gone.

5) Pour the rest of the water into the potion, and do not stir. The water will seep in and blend as long as the potion is accurate.

6) Let the potion sit in the cauldron for 15 minutes before removing and placing in the stoppered jar. It should be a smooth, slightly heavy liquid.

How to Use: Add two drops to your great dane's water dish. The potion will dissolve and he/she will not even notice it there.

Dragon Draft
By Rodney Diggory

Warning: This potion is classified as extremely hazardous. It has been banned by the Ministry of Magic.

This potion allows the drinker to change into any form of dragon he or she wishes. The potion last approximately two hours, after that the drinker transfers back into a human form. There is also a warning to this draft. If the drinker lets his mind become part of the dragon, then the drinker will not be able to return to human form. This potion has only been used one time. The greatest wizard, Merlin, created it, and used it on one of the towns people to help train King Arthur. Merlin made a mistake, and the drinker lost his mind to the dragon. He became full dragon, and reined terror on Arthur. Arthur finally slayed the dragon. Since this happening, the Ministry of Magic has classified it as extremely hazardous. It is also illegal to get most of the ingredients used to make it.

Ingredients: You will need:
1 scoop of black bettle eyes
2 scales from the dragon you wish to change into
1 rat tail
5 scoops of Fairy dust
1 Fully grown Mandrake
1 Pint of Dragons Blood

First put the pint of Dragons blood into the cauldron. When the blood is boiling add 1 scoop of Black Beetle eyes, and when potion has turned a greenish color add the full grown Mandrake. Let potion set for four days, then add the rat tail and fairy dust together. When you are ready to change add the dragon scale. Let simmer for three more days and then drink it.

14 cups of Kisslate Flower petals

2) Let it sit in the freezer until it tuns into a slush.

3) Use the Dehydration charm on the pesticide then rub with large paint brush (size of brush does not matter but I would recommend you to use this because it takes a while) on the root of the plant. The Fire Potion
By Molly McGonagall

Ingredients:
fire of dragon
soul of pheonix
blood of unicorn
avada kadavra spell put upon it

A potion that can set fire to anything it's poured onto. And almost nothing can put out the fire once it's started. Not even water. The only thing that can put out the fire is if you put a Phoenix Tears onto it. Only one tear should be needed. You don't need a caldron as long as you have all of the ingredients on your hands before the first full moon of the year. You must be careful on what you use the potion on. It can flame anything. And I mean anything. Even the unflamablest of substances.

The Last Breath
By Dragon_Princess

This potion is used as a last resort if you are in terrible, life-threatening peril. WARNING: drink only half the flask... too much will kill you. The potion will heal you back to your regular self (including broken bones, sprains, etc.), but it will make you queasy and light headed. It is a very rare and the cost more than most people can afford. If you wish to make it on your own, you must search long and hard for the ingredients.
Only one person must collect all the ingredients or it will not work. There are small leafy plants in the middle of the Sarkatare Mountian. This plant (the dory mory) is nicknamed the wishful want plant, and is easy to identify. You will notice when you come upon it that its leafs resemble human heads of unimaginable beauty, and change to the desire of your most desired type of beauty in a person. Gently take your forefinger and thumb and pinch off 3 of the parts of the leafs that look like human ears.

Autimatically, the ears will change into boiling blobs. Do not take any heed to this transfer, but stuff them into a red silk bag tied with a unicorn hair. The next item is a silver hair from the whisker of a lone alfa wolf. This task is much easier, but you must take the whisker on the night of the new moon near a body of water. Once you have taken your prize, secure it in the same bag as the dory mory leafs.

The third ingredient is the tear of a unicorn. The tear must be from the same unicorn of which you have the hair for your silk pouch. The only way to get the tear is to go into the forest and sing a sweet sad song about the world as it used to be. As you know, since you already have a hair of the unicorn it is slightly bound to you (its not the same if you have one in your wand). You will move the unicorn to tears, and this is when you take your tear.

Slowly remove a crystal flask made only of only the purest of rose crystal and move carefully up toward the unicorn. Bring the flask under the eye of the creature and take a few tears. Back away and make sure not to look the unicorn in the eye. Leave an offering of Weeping Willow branches and quickly go away. Once you have all your items, find the largest cauldren you can and gather your items together.

Mix the items in the bag together as well as the string that holds the bag closed and 3 quarts of water. Wait 3 days before putting in the rest of the ingredients. The potion should now be a dark bluish color. Wait another 3 days and then dump all the contents into an enlargement flask. There is no way to test your product, so use it at your own risk!

The Peace Potion
By Kyra Hawkens

Will compel two people to resolve their differences.

Ingredients:
2 oranges
42 tomatoes
1 Yorkshire terrier
2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
1 copy of the newest version of Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary
1 cup black acrylic paint
1 cup white acrylic paint
1 Polaroid camera
1 copy of the Emancipation Proclamation
10 turtle doves
1 fully decorated German Christmas tree
5 apple pies
1 tablespoon of powdered dragon egg shell
1 priest
1 left lemur bone from a 22 year old African giraffe
1 square 3 by 3 ft skin of a giant tortoise

Tools:
1 cauldron
1 large paintbrush

Preparation:
1. On the night of a crescent moon, allow the Yorkshire terrier to chew the large end of the bone. Using the Polaroid camera, take a picture of the Yorkshire terrier with bone in mouth.
2. On that same night, take 21 tomatoes and hand squeeze the juice into the cauldron. Place the newest version of Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary open and facedown in the cauldron so that the page upon which “tomato” is defined is open.
3. With lemur bone, mix in the cream of tartar and powdered dragon egg shell and place on medium fire for 3 minutes.
4. Cover cauldron with tortoise skin and allow juice to soak into Dictionary.
5. At dawn the next day, remove the Dictionary and check. If both pronunciations of tomato has not yet changed from “toe-may-to" to “toe-mah-to" then repeat steps 1 through 5 with same dictionary.
6. Take Dictionary and pound the remaining tomatoes to a pulp on a smooth wooden surface.
7. Place dictionary, copy of Emancipation Proclamation, and Polaroid of dog inside cauldron and let simmer through 2 natural or artificial blizzards.*
8. Add black and white paint and mix thoroughly with bone. This will cause the solution to become extremely acidic.
9. Add the fully decorated Christmas tree. In 4 hours it will fully disintegrate into solution.
10. Have the priest bless each of the 10 turtle doves, then feed the priest 5 apple pies. (priests of any religion/cult are acceptable)
11. Having consumed the pies, have the priest curse the potion, then have the priest excommunicated.
12. Allow the potion to sit through 1 full war.**
13. On the night of a solar eclipse, add the two oranges and cover with tortoise skin.
14. On the day of a lunar eclipse, remove the cover. The oranges should have both turned to apples. If this does not occur, repeat steps 1-13 with same oranges.

Usage: Both persons must each consume one of the apples in their entirety. The apples may be baked, cooked, broiled into other food forms, but the entire apple must be consumed. Effects are instantaneous.

* Artificial blizzards are recommended for time consuming purposes. See Weather-Making for the Tourist by Angelica Dunesworthy for more information.

**A very popular potion in France during the 18th century, the Peace Potion was banned by the International Council of Wizardry in the Potion Prohibition of 1789.

Presto Change-o Potion
By Lady Lilawen

Have you ever been in a situation where you wished that you weren't there? Have you ever wanted to expierence being a bird? Well here's your chance! With a few simple ingrediants and a few short hours you can transform yourself into something else. Let's say that you wanted to become a fish, here's what you need.

2 teaspoons of crushed yellow Lily-make sure it was picked at midnight!
1 cup of fresh water from a creek
one ounce of fresh squeezed plantano
2 beans of cocoa
3 pinches of fish scale

Do not cook this! I repeat do not cook this. It only works if it's fresh.

Put the ingrediants in a ceder bowl in the order of the recipe (i.e start with Lily). Set the bowl outside during the day so the sun releases the power of the plants. After 4 hours distribute the potion in small viles so you can enjoy it anytime! Remember, it will never expire as long as it doesn't get exposed to fire. These are the standards ingrediants for any potion.

The fish scales are just an example of the array of animals you can transform into. You could also use 3 pinches of cat hair, 3 pinches of dog hair, 3 pinches of sparrow feather...whatever you like! Remember you must use 3 pinches for whatever animal you decide to become.

This potion lasts for 5 hours. Any longer than that and the Ministry will get involved, hehe. Enjoy this potion responsibly. You can't turn yourself into a human or an inanimate object, only animal. So don't even try to turn yourself into a teacher! Have fun!

Toadstool Potion
By Effie

Potion Toadstool is easy to prepare, which is a little unusual. In each wizarding house you can find a bottle of Toadstool. This potion is used as antidote for most kinds of poisons. If it is used for strong poison, the effects of it are slacked up and if it is used for weak poison, the poison is completely destroyed. For weak poison we need around 3 small cups of Toadstool.

Ingredients:
wings from may-beetle (25g / 3dl)
7 nettles
frog slime (2 tea cups)
bloom from alfalfa (20g)
water

How to Prepare Toadstool Potion:
1. Pour frog slime, which is warmed on 65°C into water. Mix it well and cook 3 minutes.
2. Crush may-beetle wings to soft powder and wrap it into nettle leaves.
3. Add leaves with powder inside to concoction of frog slime and cook it 7 minutes. Colour of concoction must be yellow. If not, powder from wings was wrapped badly.
4. If colour is yellow put bloom from alfalfa into mixture.
5. Cook it 20 minutes then mix potion and stop when it is green coloured.

This potion is effective up to two years from its making.

How to use Toadstool Potion:
If somebody drank or ate poison, you can help them if you give to this person Toadstool Potion. If it was weak poison, give to that person 3dl of potion. If it was strong poison, give to person 5dl of potion. Then keep the person in quiet place and call for doctor or take person into St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.

History of Toadstool Potion:
This potion isn’t the same as Mushroom Toadstool. In 1624 wizards thought that toadstool was resource of poisons. Because of this, the witch Domenica Originalei (she was from Italy) who was expert on potions, decided to to find out solution how to prepare antidote for toadstool. She didn’t know that the potion she cooked is working on each poison. She gave the name Toadstool Potion to it because of her victory in the battle with the Toadstool.

Uplifters Potion
By Raleen

One of the most popular modern-day potions is, of course, the Uplifters potion. This potion is used to create a scerene effect, while causing the person who drank it to hover several inches in the air. The person who drinks the potion feels a slight tingling sensation while they forget all of their problems. This potion also has certain healing properties. When put directly into a wound, the wound heals within minutes. The ingredients are as follows:

Ingredients:
7 grams liquefied wormwood
1.4 grams slike powder
2 grams chopped Wockes root
.5 ounces of phoenix tears
3.5 ounces of frog's blood
3 grams of waterpot weed spores
2 ground floberworms
3 ground dragon scales

Tools:
Mortar and Pestle
Knife
Cauldron
Spoon

To Prepare:
1. Mix frogs blood and liquified wormwood in a medium sized cauldron Stir in slike powder.
2. Wait until the mixture begins to bubble before stirring vigorously while slowly adding the waterpot weed spores.
3. Drop in the Wockes root, Floberworms, and dragonscales.
4. Let the mixture set for 1 week before adding the phoenix tears.

Just drink 5 ounces of the potion and you will instantly feel the effect. The recipe can be adjusted by adding more or less waterpot weed spores, to make the effects last longer or shorter. This recipe lasts about an hour.
