Augustus the Noble In the late 1930s, muggles all over the world were engaged in what they called "World War II." Since the wizarding world was also busy with Grindewald and his worldwide revolution at the same time, the two wars overlapped. Throughout Eastern Europe, the muggles launched an event called the "Holocaust" in which they killed many of their own due to certain differences. Augustus witnessed this, so he decided to react. Augustus was especially good in Transfiguration classes, so he snuck into one of the camps one night and transfigured about eight muggles into rocks and smuggled them into safety. He then re-transfigured them back and placed memory charms on them. Augustus went on to make about 30 more trips like this all across Poland and it is believed that he rescued over 300 muggles in the process. He received an Order of Merlin,
2nd Class award for his gallant deeds. Black Cats ~*~ Dragon Breakout: a Mystery It was reported that the Horntail had esacaped the new Dragon Sanctuary in Diagon Alley at, estimated, seven in the evening. At approximately eight in the evening, three Muggles spotted the Horntail making its way to the park. As the Minister of Magic, Arthur Dippet, is with direct contact with the Britain Prime Minister, reinforcements were immediately despatched from the Ministry of Magic was sent to cover it up, when he was informed of the incident. Dragon experts and catchers were called up to transport the Horntail back. A total of two hours were needed to transport the Horntail back to the Dragon Sanctuary. The Muggle witnesses had their memories modified and it was hard work as there were a total of more than twenty Muggles witnessing the scene. A spokegoblin of the Dragon Sanctuary reported that ther was a huge concealed passageway, covered by a large bush, leading to the Muggle world in the Horntail's 'cell' and it had somehow discovered it. The manager of the Dragon Sanctuary, Gabrielle Clearwater, had covered the passageway and installed more precautions to prevent such incidents again. It has been known that such incidents had occured umpteen times before in Romania and Bulgaria. ~*~ The First Magic Wand This all changed in 390 B.C. when a young wizard named Maximillian Ollivander in Northern Italy came about his magnificent discovery. Ollivander worked for the Ministry of Magic of the Roman Empire and was a part-time woodcrafter for muggles. While on vacation one week, he experimented with a thin oak log that was 10 inches long and a bit of unicorn tail hair. He sliced the log in half and insterted the tail right in the middle. He then forged the log back together and let it stand overnight. The next day, he picked up his creation and started waving it around like a baton. Then his 15 year old brother, Augustus Ollivander walked in on him and gave him quite a shock. Without thinking, Maximillian then pointed the wand at his brother and shouted "Petrificus Totalus!" A white misty cloud then was emitted from the wand and hit Augustus directly at his back. Maximillian noticed that the spell was twice as powerful as the last time he had done it to Augustus (which was just three days before) and was aimed perfectly. He then tried other simple spells that he knew and they were all twice as powerful and had perfect aim. For the next five months, Maximillian worked like a house-elf on his magic wands. He shut down his wood crafting shop and took a leave of absence from the Ministry. He experimented with many types of wood and found out that some types worked well with unicorn hair, while others types refused to work with unicorn hair at all. Later, he tried out dragon heartstrings, phoenix feathers, snake fangs, and hippogriff feathers. After working for three years, he finally mass-produced enough magic wand combinations to re-open up his woodcrafting shop as a magic wand shop. He relocated five years later into Diagon Alley in primitive London, where the shop Ollivanders now stand. Maximillian Ollivander received an award of Order of Merlin, First Class for his great achievement in 1118, when the shop Ollivanders celebrated its 1500th Anniversary. Maximillian's descendant, Henry Ollivander received the award on behalf of Maximillian. *~* Forgo the Forgotten Whatever they said, he was definately out of the ordinary. He did not join the groups of children his age in games such as "The Lightest Foot" and "Guess The Plant", but wandered off to be by himself. The others soon became used to this odd behavior of his and thought of it as no importance. Wandering through The Forest Of Fifty Ghosts one day, he stumbled across a fairy being harrased by a ghost who had been a menace called Gunther The Menace in his formal life. Racing over, Fargo stamped at the ghost with his hooves. Annoyed, the ghost lost interest in the harrassment of the young fairy. Turning around, Forgo saw that the fairy was smiling at him. She told him that she was the daughter of the queen fairy of the forest and that she would grant him a wish for saving her. Forgo gazed up at the stars for a minute and thought. "I want to become an immortal and travel the world around and read the stars forever." At hearing his wish, the fairy quickly waved her hand and vanished. Soon after, Forgo left The Forest of the Fifty Ghosts to wander around and learn about everything the stars can tell. Ever since, Forgo has been wandering the earth. Nobody missed him in his centaur clan since he had always been quiet and self-preserved, but if you listen closely in the dead of night when the stars are at their brightest, you may be able to catch a glimpse of a swhishing tail, a soft whinny, or a lock of brown hair in the shadows. Nobody has seen him in the whole. It's almost as if he wasn't ever there. *~* The Great Rebellion For years the tyrant leader, Kane forced many great witches and wizards into hiding. Tired and angry the council of magic decided to break free from their dictator. Many were afraid to fight for fear of being put in to slavery or worse, death. Without any other options the board of magic agreed to the uprising. Lead by the gallant witch Morgana the battle was to begin. Dressed in robes of dark blue, Morgana
walked in to the village. Several women were backing out of the way, while
others promptly grabbed their children to protect them. Bravely she marched
up to Kane's door, hoping to convince him to stop the hatred. When he
opened the large, oak door his eyes grew wide. "Very well," sighed Morgan
as she left Kane's door and headed back to the forest. "You were
warned." "Good sirs," bowed Morgana.
" I have been to see Master Kane." "My brave witches and wizards
the time is upon us. Kane, the leader of the village of Feign, has not
accepted our offer for peace. We have no other choice but to go to war." By now the forest had exploded in
to huge shout approval, all were ready to confront their tormenter. Hidden
in the shadows, Morgana watched as the others prepared to leave the forest.
It wasn't until Algernon called her over that she walked out of the darkness. "They know!" screeched
a bony, little witch in the crowd. "We must run, before it's to late!" This enraged Morgana and her people.
Before anyone could speak someone shot out a silver streak towards one
of Kane's men. Like a great wave the swarm of witches, wizards, and muggles
collided with one another. Sparks from wands were being sent in all directions,
while clubs, swords, and fists were being sent back in retaliation. Clouds
of thick colored smoke loomed over the mayhem, as Morgana's people called
out spells. Many muggles ran off into the forest in the shapes of various
animals, while other were screaming in pain from boils, sores, and other
dreadful ailments. Umph! She knocked face down
by one of Kane's men. When she realized what had happen it been too late,
her wand was gone. She tried to get to her feet, but something was holding
her down. "Look at what you have done,
did you really think we wanted this?" "Bend the bone and break
the back Like a gust of strong wind Kane
was knocked painfully to the ground, and he began to change. He raised
his hands trying desperately to grab hold of what ever he came in contact
with, but there was nothing there. Slowly his body had begun to grow thick,
black fur, and his once human screams became more beast like. Twisting
and turning he transformation was complete. "Go home," she said in
a monotone voice, as she silently made her way back to the Forbidden Forest. *~* Helen The Salem Witch She snuck into a house and picked a hair from the first head she came to and left for her home. She had done this so many times that she didn't even look to see what she had turned into! Helen started off to do a spell so she could be caught, she went down a street and disapparate in front of a bunch of people! Well she reappeared 7 yards away and waited for the crowd to show and waited, and waited, finally she gave up and went home. The next day she found out that she had turned into her lover, a muggle named Carl Sooner and when she had not seen the crowd, they had gone to Carl's house and when he said over and over that he wasnt a witch and wouldnt go to trail, they stoned him to death! Helen fell into despair, disappeared and was never seen again. After the Ministry found out that this had happened they banned witches and wizards from ever trying to get burned again, and, when a muggle judge named Steven Duggart came back to town after visiting his sick aunt and found out how the people had stoned a man to death, he banned the witch trials from ever taking place again. That was the end of the Salem Witch Trials. No one knows to this day what happened to Helen, some say she died of a broken heart, some say she was evil and is still doing stuff, who really knows, we might never know! *~* Hogwarts Founding Fathers (...and
Mothers): An Indepth Biography Probably most widely known of the four was Godric Gryffindor, whose name is now one of the most successful Hogwarts houses. Godric, who came from the moor, was known to be quite easy going and allowed anyone who showed magical aptitude, to enroll at Hogwarts, no matter their blood type. A master at transfiguration, Godric was a brave and noble wizard, often carrying his silver sword, which is now in the possesion of the current Hogwarts headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. Gryffindor, who was the original owner of the Sorting Hat, thought up the idea of using the old rag to decide upon which house the first years should join. Next, we go to Salazar Slytherin, known for his cunning and desire of perfection. Slytherin was the original member of the four who wished to permit only pureblood young wizards at Hogwarts, believing "Mudbloods" to be unclean. Salazar, who was rumoured to delve in the Dark Arts, also excelled at making potions and brews. It is believed that Salazar also created a secret chamber within Hogwarts, though, that information is not totally reliable and generally believed as a myth. Slytherin was also able to speak Parseltongue, language of snakes and the House Animal of the current Hogwarts house is the reptile. Third, we go to patient and just Helga Hufflepuff, who was known for her great ability amongst plants and other magical ingredients. Though not much is known about Helga, as with her female companion, Rowena Ravenclaw, we do know that she was from the valley. A loyal and hard worker, you would most likely find Professor Hufflepuff amongst the Hogwarts gardens. Finally, we come to wise old Rowena Ravenclaw. A scholar and educator of sorts, Rowena was always known to be carrying a book in one hand and a quill in the other. Always craving more knowledge, Ravenclaw was excellent in the field of charms and other such spells. Rowena was thought to come from the glen. In conclusion, these four witches and wizards, though different in many different aspects, were awe-inspiring together and founded one of the oldest and most established magical schools in all of Europe and the world. *~* House Elves The first house elf was created by world-renowned Renaissance man, Leonardo Da Vinci. His only fault (which caused titters and snickers throughout the family) was the disappointing fact that he was a squib. This is why he worked tirelessly to created Muggle- and squib-friendly inventions to make up for lack of the powers that his relatives possessed. It was discovered in his journals (written in his traditional upside-down and backwards scripture) that he despised his relatives and was full of self-pity. If it were modern days, he would be able to use a Muggle product called 'Prozac' to relieve depression. Despite this not exactly redeeming quality, he continued to enrich his world and mind with his inventions, discoveries, and art. Now, where do house elves fit in? Not having the ability to magically create a being, he created a machine (now called a robot by Muggles) to take care of his household duties while he tinkered away in his study. Being a brilliant man, he was able to full y use his 'robot', even without magical abilities. One day, his unidentified relative decided to play a practical joke on Leonardo while he was in his study. He took his wand (later discovered in Florence, Italy to be birch, 18.2 centimeters, containing one dragon heartstring) and gave the robot life. He gave it a life with a long, ugly nose; huge, buggy eyes; overly large feet, and the inability to free itself so it could annoy Leonardo with it's pipsqueaky voice for the rest of his life. And thus house elves were created. Although the relative's plan backfired: Leonardo told everything to the little elf, and enjoyed his company immensely. That house elf knew all the plans, inventions, and thoughts of a true genius, and stayed silent with the information until the day when Leonardo accidentally threw him a handkerchief in frustration when an invention didn't work. The elf recalled feeling, "a broken link, like" (as recorded from Leonardo's journals) and found he could leave freely. Although he chose not to leave, a loophole was t hen discovered. After Leonardo asked his relative to create another house elf, the species flourished. No one is sure how house elves cultivated, as they are seen as little as possible and only the richest families could afford one. In fact, Squeaky, the first house elf, received such a large profit from Leonardo for the selling of house elves, had a small mansion built for himself next to Leonardo in which he hung handkerchiefs on all the walls. Unfortunately, the fact that they were essentially selling slaves did not occur to them as slaves were not an issue back in Renaissance times. Now protests against the slavery of house elves surround our world, although the house elves do not participate. Most inherited Squeaky's love for his master and willingness to serve, although of course there are oddballs in every family. Today, the only protest house elves make is a wish to be represented at the Ministry of Magic so they can further aid wizardkind. Although they are indeed quite ugly and intended fo r servitude their entire lives, they are a very noble species at heart. *~* Sarah the Saddened "Ah, now we can discuss our
plans in peace," Rogart said, "without fear of humans finding
them out." |
